Looking at Yourself Is Not Blaming Yourself
As a parent coach, I work with parents whose children struggle with complex challenges—disordered eating, self-harm, antisocial behavior, and substance use.
Most parents are willing to do whatever it takes: therapy, treatment, medication. That commitment matters. But a deeper question must be asked: What is the child trying to survive? Destructive behavior is rarely the root problem—it is a coping mechanism for something deeper.
When focus shifts to family dynamics, parents often feel defensive. But looking at yourself is not blaming yourself. Most parents are simply passing down unexamined patterns—old fears and rigid ideas about control or self-worth. How unaddressed family patterns show up:
• In the child: Food issues, substance use, extreme anger, isolation
• In the parent: control, emotional shutdown, denial, hyper-vigilance. If your child is struggling, it doesn't mean you failed—it means the family system is ready to break old cycles.
Ready to create real shift in your family? I offer 1-on-1 parent coaching and guide sessions to help you uncover root issues, heal generational patterns, and support your child effectively.
